A fallen petal in front of the house is placed into a mug filled with water. The petal slowly spins, forming a small frame together with the white curve of the cup. Guided by the changing light of the seasons, its position is shifted by a few centimeters each day.

Everything has a use imagined by its maker. A mug, of course, is a vessel for drinking—but seen differently, it is simply a handled container, and could just as easily become a vase.

We possess imagination, and at times it moves beyond the intentions of those who create.

Issey Miyake’s clothing is designed to unsettle fixed perspectives and habitual ways of thinking. A rectangular piece of fabric, punctured by only three holes. Is this the right orientation? Is this the correct opening for the head? The unconscious act of getting dressed becomes a conscious one. Is this right? That very question brings the act of wearing clothes—so often forgotten—back into focus.

An early morning, just after waking. The buttons of a white shirt fastened before the mind is fully alert. A misaligned buttoning creates unexpected drapes and an irregular silhouette.

If it feels beautiful, then even a “wrong way” of wearing becomes the best way.
